One last note about SRP 2006

Well, now that Summer Reading is over I suppose we should end it with an official evaluation. So for those of you who have buzzzed, popped, whistled your way through programs and crafts, please do the same on the online summer reading survey.

The date for completing the survey is Friday, October 13th 2006. In fact, both the survey and summer reading orders for 2007, ie. posters, reading logs, certificates, YA cards and online manual should also be completed by October 13th. Please be sure to place the quantity of zero (0) in boxes where you do not wish to order materials. This will ensure that we have an accurate account of your order and eliminate errors. And if you should need music in the background as you prepare your orders and evaluation, try popping in Rimskij-Korsakov's classical piece, "THE FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLEBEE". I think this would be a great source of inspiration.

Yippee-Yi-Yay! The Big Eastern States Exposition tickets are on their way to those libraries who claimed a pair as part of their Summer Reading prize incentive offering. For those of you who missed that June email, we have eight(8) more pairs of tickets to giveway if you are interested. Just call or write me an email to claim them!

Our thanks goes out to Janet Eckert, Youth Services Consultant of WMRLS who lassoed a pair on all of the regions' behalf. Way to go cowgirl!

A Summer Reading Commercial to Enjoy!

Gather around the "Tube" folks for an entertaining spectacle of statewide collaboration and the use of the latest social-networking technology. Using the skits that Amesbury and Springfield children's librarians created in celebration of SRP 2006, Lee Parker of Norton recorded a video clip with the help of her Junior Friends and Teen Advisory Group to produce two ads to be broadcast on their local cable station. Either skit can be found on the summer reading wiki under the publicity section. These "fantabolous" resources and ideas generated by other creative librarians across the state have been added throughout the wiki to support our What's Buzzin' at Your Library and Tune Into Your Library reading programs. Feel free to comment, collaborate and create as the summer goes along. You will be pleasantly surprised at what wonderful things you'll find under your reading log. So don't hold back this summer. If you have a last minute idea, add it to the wiki for all to share. In the meantime, enjoy the shows!

P.S. Go ahead and dim the lights and microwave popcorn for added effect. *-)

Publicity Toolkit for Summer Reading Programs

The MBLC Toolkit Summer Reading Toolkit has been prepared for all who would like to share the great news of the 'what's buzzin' at your library' and 'tune in at your library' ad campaigns with your local radio, newspaper or cable tv outlets. We have both a 30-second radio script for teens and children, and of course color and black & white ads for the media.

For a listing of all the billboards across the state, click here. Honk erratically and mouth the words, "That's my library ad!" should a driver from another car looks over at you strangely.

P.S. A BIG thank you goes out to SEMLS' regional statewide summer reading committee reps, Lee Parker of Norton and Kitty Schacht of Mansfield for providing useful comments and suggestions for the creative development process of this years current ad.
