The Science of Summer Reading

What do you get when you cross one Alka-Seltzer tablet, water and an empty film roll bottle? One heck of an idea for a summer reading program activity that's what!
Last Thursday, we had an EGGSellent time building space capsules and rockets using household products in the Explore! Fun with Science workshop facilitated by Central Region's Youth Consultant Maureen Amborosino. As a NASA trained EGGSONAUT, Mrs. Amborosino provided wonderful handouts, website and a limited Explore! Fun with Science bag to carry our goodies for future space flights. So what does science have to do with summer reading? Everything if you're a science lover! There many be an inquisitive child who would like to understand the science involved in the flight of a bumblebee, the relation of temperature in the sound of crickets chirping or the physics a leaping lizard. Why not encourage that scientific inquiry by ordering NASA produced programs, videos, activity sheets, posters and fun-facts to share with your patrons and/or decorate your children's rooms?
If you couldn't make the workshop but would like to visit some of the suggested website links that Ms. Amborosino offered, see below. You never know...you could inspire our next astronaut that will fly us to the moon and keep us there!
